ABOUT US

Since 2022, Mining Risk Management and Development Organization(MRM)
has worked to spotlight and preserve the ASGM from mercury dependence transforming it green to secure critical benefits that nature provides to humanity.
Combining fieldwork with innovations in science, policy and finance, we’ve helped raise awareness, improve health and protect the environment in Sudan
Today, with networks spreading in more than a dozen states and a worldwide network of of partners, our reach is truly global. But we couldn't have made it this far without you. Your contributions support our work to eradicate mercury and protect nature for the benefit of us all.

OUR GOAL
Our ultimate goal is to achieve Zero mercury in Gold Mining thereby protecting the most fundamental things that nature provides to all of us: our food, our fresh water, our livelihoods and a stable climate.
Since 2022, MRM has been working in Sudan focusing on mercury eradication and supporting efforts to establish a national system of providing alternative means as part of its broader mission to protect nature for the benefit of all. Nationally, MRM works at every level from villages to Capitals and heads of corporations to find solutions and support the move towards a healthier, more sustainable gold mining path. Through science, policy, and partnerships with the government, communities and companies, MRM, over the years, has helped support miners and interventions across the four affected states, safeguarding large hectares of land and aquatic areas.

Our Mission
Building upon a strong foundation of science, partnership and field demonstration, MRM empowers societies to responsibly and sustainably gold mine, while preserving biodiversity, for the well-being of humanity.

Our Vision
We imagine a healthy, prosperous world in which societies are forever committed to caring for and valuing nature, for the long-term benefit of people and all life on Earth.

Our Strategy
MRM-Sudan brings together our strong capacity to design and implement effective local solutions that respond to local and national priorities, and the reach of a global network from which experiences and expertise can be drawn. In pursuing our 2028 Vision, we will use sound science, demonstrate innovations on the ground, and build effective partnerships at the right levels to achieve programme impact. MRM’s experience and capacity will affect and help shape how the country transforms itself from mercury dependence in gold extraction to a diversified, green and resilient technologies, in keeping with Green Mining Initiative objectives.
Our partnerships are essential to our success. Hence, a central thrust of our strategy is to enable people at all levels of Sudanese society to embrace and share the vision we see and to build their capacity to act for its achievement. Over the period 2025 to 2028, we will aim to achieve four goals, building on the successes and lessons of our work in previous strategy implementation periods. These goals cover the key areas in which our strengths as an institution can best support the achievement of our 2028 Vision.

Our Core Values
All that Conservation International does around the globe is guided by six core values — courage, integrity, passion, respect, optimism and teamwork.
A number of policies and procedures reflect these values and ensure that all MRM staff maintain a commitment to governance, accountability and transparency as we work together to achieve our mission.
Our Code of Ethics provides guidance to MRM employees, consultants, independent experts, interns and volunteers in adopting the core values into their work. Our Anti-Bribery and Anti-Corruption Policy outlines the repercussions for engaging in such activities MRM’s Ethics Hotline provides employees, grantees and other partners an outlet to anonymously report incidents of illegal or unethical conduct. We also offer a guide to disclosing conflicts of interest.

OUR PRIORITIES
Nature is life: The air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat — it all comes from nature. And we have a plan to keep it safe:
Our Approach
Mercury threats to nature and health are as varied as they are complex. That's why we employ several different strategies to meet these challenges:
